The start of the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup season got kicked off last night with the running of the 30th Budweiser Shootout at Daytona International Speedway. If last night's race is any indication, NASCAR is primed for another great racing season in 2012.
For over 2 months, fans of NASCAR have to had to patiently wait for the roaring sound of NASCAR's best competing in an actual race. The last memory most fans had was Tony Stewart's impressive battle with Carl Edwards at Homestead-Miami Speedway to end the 2011 season. Stewart and Edwards battled to the final laps of the race, giving NASCAR it's closest championship battle in the sport's history.
Tony Stewart's dramatic win at Homestead-Miami Speedway and his impressive victory of the 2011 Sprint Championship gave NASCAR and its fans something to be excited about for the upcoming season.
The 2012 Budweiser Shootout was full of the same excitement from the 2011 cup finale at Homestead. After a wild race, where "pack style" racing was back thanks to changes made by NASCAR after offseason testing, fans had another reason to get excited.
We start 2012 with perhaps the best race of Speed Weeks and undoubtedly the best Budweiser Shootout ever. Given the finish to the NASCAR season last year, it is safe to say that 2012 will be a continuation of excitement. The Budweiser Shootout reminded me of the exact reason that I am a fan and made me even more excited about this upcoming season.
Join me my friends as we celebrate the return of our sport, NASCAR, and know that our sport is back, with a vengeance!
